Focus for the public good.

I was thinking that we should focus on the community awareness factor in our project overview
The two streams, Stone Dam Creek (SDC) and HPER ditch, having been additions to the landscape by humans for urban flood control will need management in perpetuity. The flood control provided by SDC and the HPER ditch is an important ecological service for the city of Conway and the campus of UCA.
I haven't done all the math but the bank full/bank height ratio > 1 seems to indicate that the two streams will not over flow. Rosgen 1996 They should always be able to handle the amount of storm water runoff. But if steps are not taken to manage the scouring and undercutting the two streams will get uglier and deeper.
If our primary goal focuses on the cultural and then add further support through addressing the socioeconomic we may find it easier to write up the report.
Any thoughts?

  1. Good thought; that would also tie in with the cultural aspect of the garden plan, and would help bring everything together overall. We're going to have to have that cultural aspect pretty solidly and get community support if we want to pull this off.

  2. Agreed! Also, I remember Dr. Larson saying that the JMNR has received funding for the prairie in the past - specifically due to the education factor.
